Ingredients

Scale

For the Sandwich:

  • 1 lb ribeye steak or sirloin – Thinly sliced against the grain.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil – For sautéing.
  • 1 bell pepper – Sliced (red, green, or yellow).
  • 1 medium onion – Sliced.
  • 1 cup mushrooms – Sliced (optional but adds great flavor).
  • 4 hoagie rolls – Soft, with a slightly crusty exterior.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese – For melty, creamy goodness.
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise – For spreading on the rolls.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard – Adds a tangy kick (optional).
  • Salt & pepper – To taste.

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Pickles – For a crunchy, tangy addition.
  • Fresh parsley – Chopped, for garnish.
  • Hot sauce – For some heat (optional).

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Steak and Veggies

  • Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips. Set aside.
  • Slice the bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms.

Step 2: Sauté the Veggies

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms to the pan. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Sauté the veggies until they are softened and slightly caramelized, about 7-8 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Steak

  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Add the thinly sliced steak and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Return the sautéed veggies to the skillet and toss with the steak. Let everything heat together for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4: Assemble the Sandwich

  • While the steak and veggies are cooking, slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise.
  • Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the inside of each roll, and if you like, add some Dijon mustard for extra flavor.
  • Pile the steak and veggie mixture onto the bottom half of each hoagie roll.
  • Top with a slice of provolone cheese on each sandwich.

Step 5: Melt the Cheese

  • Place the sandwiches under a broiler or in a hot skillet to melt the cheese. If using a skillet, cover the pan with a lid for a few minutes to help the cheese melt evenly. Broil for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  • Once the cheese is melted and the sandwiches are toasted, remove them from the heat.
  • Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley or a few pickle slices for added crunch.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Thinly Sliced Steak – Thin cuts like ribeye or sirloin work best for this sandwich because they cook quickly and stay tender.
  • Toast the Rolls – For extra flavor, you can toast the hoagie rolls under the broiler for a minute before assembling the sandwich.
  • Customize the Toppings – Feel free to add other toppings like jalapeños, bacon, or even a fried egg for a unique twist.
  • Don’t Overcook the Steak – Since the steak is sliced thin, it cooks quickly, so be careful not to overdo it.
