Ingredients

Scale

For the Salisbury Steak Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground chicken

  • ⅓ cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Skillet & Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)

  • 1 lb baby potatoes, halved

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
Mix gently just until combined.
Form into 4–5 oval patties and set aside.

Step 2: Sear the Patties
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the patties and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, until browned but not fully cooked through.
Transfer to a plate and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Potatoes
In the same skillet, add remaining 1 tbsp olive oil.
Add halved potatoes and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until starting to brown.
Add sliced onions and cook for another 3 minutes, until softened.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Step 4: Make the Gravy
Sprinkle flour over the potatoes and onions and stir to coat.
Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring.
Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 2 minutes until the gravy starts to thicken.

Step 5: Return Patties to Skillet
Nestle the seared patties into the skillet with the potatoes and gravy.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 12–15 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and potatoes are fork-tender.
Uncover and simmer for a few extra minutes if you want the sauce thicker.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired.
Serve hot, straight from the skillet, with crusty bread or a side salad.

Notes

Use Baby Potatoes – They cook quickly and hold their shape.
Don’t Overmix the Meat – Mix gently to keep patties tender.
Thicken as Needed – Simmer uncovered to reduce gravy if it’s too thin.
Make Ahead – Patties and potatoes can be prepped earlier in the day.
Boost the Flavor – Add a splash of balsamic vinegar or Dijon mustard to the gravy for depth.
