  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese, freshly grated
  • 6 ounces parmesan cheese, freshly grated

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 ¼ pounds lean ground beef
  • ½ pound ground chicken
  • 1 can (29 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (29 ounces) crushed tomatoes in puree
  • Lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, blend ricotta, 8 oz mozzarella, 2 oz parmesan, egg, salt, pepper, parsley, and basil. Refrigerate until needed.
  2. Cook Meat & Vegetables: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté garlic in olive oil. Add carrots, onions, celery; cook until tender. Stir in ground beef and chicken; brown thoroughly.
  3. Make Sauce: Combine cooked meat with tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, grape juice, Italian herbs, and sugar. Simmer for about 15 minutes.
  4. Assemble Lasagna: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, cheese mixture repeatedly until all ingredients are used. Top with remaining mozzarella and provolone.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil; bake for about 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
