Ingredients
For the Dough:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
For the Cinnamon Swirl:
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For the Egg Wash (Optional):
1 egg, beaten (for brushing the top of the loaf)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl
- While the dough is rising, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- In another small bowl, melt the butter for the swirl.
Step 3: Shape the Dough
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle, about 12 inches by 8 inches.
- Brush the surface of the dough with the melted butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the entire surface.
- Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log shape.
Step 4: Prepare for Baking
- Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and place the dough seam-side down in the pan.
- Cover with a cloth and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen slightly above the top of the pan.
Step 5: Bake the Bread
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg for a golden, glossy finish (optional).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom, and the top is golden brown.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
- Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and enjoy!
Notes
✔ Let the dough rise properly – Give it enough time to rise until it doubles in size for the fluffiest bread.
✔ Don’t overfill with cinnamon-sugar – Sprinkle evenly but don’t use too much, or it may become difficult to roll.
✔ Keep the dough warm while it rises – Ensure the dough rises in a warm, draft-free area for the best results.
✔ Adjust the cinnamon swirl – If you love more cinnamon, feel free to add a little extra to the filling.
