Ingredients

Scale

For the Casserole:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (28 oz) baked beans

  • ½ cup ketchup

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup crushed cornflakes or French fried onions

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Beef Mixture

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

  3. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 4-5 minutes until softened.

  4. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 2: Combine with Beans and Sauce
5. Stir in baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
6. Mix everything until well combined and heated through.

Step 3: Assemble the Casserole
7. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
8. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and crushed cornflakes or French fried onions on top.

Step 4: Bake the Casserole
9. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
10. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Brown the Meat Well – It adds depth and flavor to the dish.
Drain Excess Grease – Keeps the casserole from becoming too oily.
Customize the Heat – Add chili flakes or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
Layer with Love – Cheese and crispy toppings take it to the next level.
Use a Deep Dish – To avoid overflow while baking.
