Wrapped in soft tortillas and topped with fresh ingredients, these tacos are perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering. Whether you’re grilling or cooking on the stove, this recipe is easy to prepare and absolutely bursting with flavor!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, skirt steak, or ground beef (depending on your preference)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional, for extra umami)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 8 small tortillas (flour or corn)
  • Toppings (optional): diced onions, fresh cilantro, avocado slices, shredded cheese, lime wedges, sour cream

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Beef

  1. If using flank or skirt steak, season it with salt and pepper on both sides. If using ground beef, season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Cook the Beef

  • For steak: Cook the steak for 3-4 minutes per side (depending on thickness) until it reaches your desired doneness. For medium-rare, cook to an internal temperature of 130°F (54°C).
  • For ground beef: Cook in a skillet, breaking it up into small pieces with a spatula, for about 7-8 minutes, until fully browned and cooked through.

Step 3: Make the Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Sauce

  1. While the beef is cooking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, but not browned.
  3. Stir in the honey, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce (if using). Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt or more honey for sweetness, depending on your preference.

Step 4: Assemble the Tacos

  1. Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the heat. If using steak, slice it thinly against the grain for tender pieces.
  2. Drizzle the garlic butter honey BBQ sauce over the beef, making sure to coat it well.
  3. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft and pliable.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Spoon the sauced beef into each tortilla.
  2. Add your favorite toppings, such as diced onions, fresh cilantro, avocado slices, shredded cheese, or a squeeze of lime.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Choose the Right Beef: If you’re using steak, flank or skirt steak is perfect because it’s flavorful and tender. Thinly slice the steak to make it easier to eat in tacos.
  • Adjust the Sauce: Feel free to adjust the BBQ sauce and honey ratio based on how sweet or tangy you prefer your sauce.
  • Grill the Beef: For an extra smoky flavor, grill the beef instead of cooking it in a skillet.
