  • 2 pounds medium to large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey (or maple syrup)
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by whisking together minced garlic, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, orange juice, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  2. Pat the shrimp dry and coat them thoroughly with cornstarch in a large bowl.
  3. Heat about 1 inch of canola oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes on each side until they are golden and crispy; avoid overcrowding the pan.
  5. Drain excess oil from the cooked shrimp.
  6. Add the prepared sauce to the pan, heat for a couple of minutes, then toss in the fried shrimp.
  7. Cook gently for an additional 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
