Ingredients

For the Cookies:
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tbsp maple syrup (real preferred)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp cream of tartar
¼ tsp salt

For the Maple Glaze (Optional):
½ cup powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp maple syrup
1–2 tsp milk (as needed for consistency)
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

For Topping (Optional):
Extra cinnamon sugar
Chopped pecans
Maple drizzle

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Cream the Butter & Sugars
3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
4. Add the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients
5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4: Shape and Bake
7. Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
8. Optional: Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or chopped pecans before baking.
9. Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft.
10. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Step 5: Make the Glaze
11. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
12. Drizzle over cooled cookies and let set before serving.

Notes

Don’t Overbake – Cookies will continue to set as they cool.
Use Real Maple Syrup – Adds depth and authentic flavor.
Add Mix-Ins – Raisins, chopped apples, or pecans work beautifully.
Chill for Thick Cookies – If you prefer thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
