Ingredients
For the Donuts:
-
2 cups Bisquick baking mix
-
⅓ cup granulated sugar
-
1 large egg
-
½ cup milk
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
2 tbsp melted butter (for extra richness)
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Vanilla Glaze (optional):
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
2 tbsp milk
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Donut Dough
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine Bisquick mix and granulated sugar.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
-
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
-
Lightly flour your surface and gently roll out the dough to about ½-inch thickness.
Step 2: Cut Out the Donuts
-
Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out donut shapes.
-
Gently re-roll scraps to make more donuts until all dough is used.
Step 3: Heat the Oil
-
In a deep pot, heat about 2-3 inches of oil over medium heat to 350°F (use a thermometer if possible).
-
Test with a small piece of dough – it should sizzle and float to the top.
Step 4: Fry the Donuts
-
Carefully drop in a few donuts at a time, without overcrowding.
-
Fry for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
-
Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Step 5: Coat or Glaze
-
While warm, toss the donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture for a sweet crunch.
-
For glazed donuts, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
-
Dip each donut into the glaze, place on a wire rack, and let it set for a few minutes.
Notes
Don’t Overmix – Stir the dough until just combined for a tender crumb.
Use Fresh Oil – Old or reused oil can affect flavor and texture.
Monitor the Temperature – Keeping oil at the right temperature ensures even frying.
Work Quickly – Coat or glaze while donuts are warm so it sticks well.
Cool Completely – If glazing, let them sit until the glaze sets for best results.
